In the fifties and sixties when tv was very much VHF and 405blines a great many went down the road of fitting their own tv aerial in the loft.
VHF frequencies are a lot less bothered by what they are passing through so just about any loft was suitable for one to be thrown in.
VHF aerials are still around in lofts and occasionally driving around around lo and behold there is one still perched on a roof.
UHF or ultra high freque4ncy rapidly replaced VHF with its better quality.but the main reason for UHF was to allow the new colour signal to operate properly, hands up if you got colour and didn't like it at first or even turned the colour down..
If you had colour in those days you were really something, the BBC programme would actually at first announce colour at the bottom of its spinning globe.
