Its a very distinct Yorkshire village nearer to barnsley than sheffield. In fact it is a detached piece of he world where the people and accents have evolved in a unique way.
The main road through stocksbridge used to be the main route between Sheffield and the west of England,
That is until the stocksbridge bypas was built.until the mid 70s stocksbridge had very poor tv reception because of most of the population lives in the bottom of the valley where it sits.
Eley moor is the main relay for the area,so finally a tv relay was built on the southern edge of the valley giving most people in stocksbridge tv for the first time.
Stocksbridge reflects the peak district as a whole which is littered with relays,in fact outhibridge the village further down the road from stocksbridge as its own relay as well again a prominent local feature.
