Subtitles and freeview
It is hard to imagine being house bound if you are young and fit, without much of a care in the world to trouble you.
But a great great many are housebound through no fault of their own and the one companion they have is the television.
This for me is the plus side of daytime telly, stuck alone in the house all day TV takes on a whole dimension, soap operas become life and films brighten up a dull lonely day.
So the extra choice that freeview offers is quite welcome,in today’s busy world we are al tied to the grindstone and don’t have much time to go round and see relatives let alone take them out.
Go the extra mile with your housebound relatives make sure they have all the channels they and go through the equipment to be sure they understand how to use it.
The elderly especially are not willing to learn new things. To begin with make sure they know the basic 1 to 5 channels but encourage them to explore what is on offer.
Freeview does have a rather neat little system up its sleeve with the the new subtitles system.
previously it was the laborious ceefax that you had to engage, then select the channel number, freeview automatically displays subtitles with a simple menu setting,on whatever channel as them.
Remember the day will come when we you are dependent on daytime telly,so go the extra mile for somebody who is.
